11 Tips on Staying Ahead of Your Laundry

Hey there! Some links on this page are affiliate links for Amazon which means that as an Amazon associate, if you choose to make a purchase, I may earn a small comission at no extra cost to you. Thank you so much again for just checking out this page. 🙂

Laundry is the one thing that just keeps coming and coming.  Since having kids, I am realizing that it is going to be a never ending thing for a while.  I LOVE a picked up home, but honestly I really don’t love putting away laundry.  Folding it in front of the T.V. is one thing, but actually putting it away is definitely another! I’m going to add the tricks and tips I have in this post for you to get the most out of reading it, and I really do hope it helps!

1. **Create a Routine**: Set specific days and times each week for laundry. Consistency helps prevent piles from building up. Below is an Amazing Weekly calendar to help you write down what you will be doing on which days, and it’s magnetic for your kids and husband to see too!

 2. **Sort as You Go**: Keep separate hampers for whites, colors, and delicates. This way, you can toss clothes into the right basket as you change. Below you will find one of the cutest separated hampers I have ever seen.  I love the board that is on top, so you can also use it for a folding table as well.

3. **Use a Laundry App or Calendar**: Set reminders for laundry days and track what needs to be washed. Some apps can also help manage your wardrobe. I found this Calendar on amazon that is specifically for laundry, and I believe it will help!

4. **Pre-treat Stains Immediately**: Keep a stain remover nearby and treat stains as soon as they happen to avoid the hassle later. This is the BEST PRODUCT for treating stains on clothes.  My problem is that I forget or don’t know about this stain until after it’s out of the dryer.  Hopefully someday I will get better at that.

5. **Invest in Good Laundry Bags**: Use mesh bags for delicates or smaller items to prevent loss and damage in the wash. These are bags that have the best reviews on Amazon.

6. **Optimize Load Sizes**: Wash full loads to save time and energy, but don’t overstuff the washer; it can lead to ineffective cleaning. I am bad at overloading the washer, but it only happens if I have missed laundry day and am trying to catch up! This is a reason people say that doing 1 load a day works for them because it keeps the laundry monster down, but sometimes, I just don’t have enough clothes to do that! Here is the best collapsible basket that holds 11 Gallons worth of clothes!

 7. **Have a Folding Station**: Set up a designated area for folding and organizing clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer to prevent wrinkling. This is the best station that I have, it’s practical, it works, and I tend to stay in the laundry room to fold instead of hoping it gets folded when it’s in a heap on the floor in a basket.

8. **Get Family Involved**: If you live with others, assign laundry tasks or schedule shared laundry days to divide the work. If your kids are old enough, start by teaching them how to fold clothes, and then have them put their own clothes away.  If they aren’t put away within a couple days I might just have them clean their room randomly before they can watch a show after supper so it gets done before the next pile comes.

9. **Stay Ahead**: If you see a busier week coming up, do an extra load ahead of time to avoid last-minute stress. It goes back to the fact that there is always something to be done, so hopefully you can get laundry out of the way before everything else hits. I feel like this should be it’s own seperate one, but if you have a laundry day, just do it ALL that day, don’t fold one day and put away the next. You will feel much more accomplished if you do it all that day, and you won’t have piles of reminders that you need to DO something laying around either!:)

 10. **Use Dryer Balls**: These can help reduce drying time and keep clothes from clumping together in the dryer. Here are a few that I found on Amazon.

11. **Maintain Your Machines**: Regularly clean your washer and dryer to ensure they run efficiently and extend their lifespan. Implementing these tips can help you stay organized and keep laundry tasks manageable! I like to use these tablets to throw in the washer, it seemed to help mine from getting stinky.

Ultimately at the end of the day if you don’t get it done everything will still be okay!  It’s just so nice to have it done though so you can focus on other things like playing with your kids, enjoying the moment more, and not having to spend a minute thinking of the laundry that needs to get done because you have already done it.  Here is a funny video I made about the difference between my husband and my sense of urgency when it comes to doing laundry.  Enjoy and I hope this helped!
